Torge currently leads various groups in New York City, but primarily a sextet focused on originals and a quintet that plays arrangements of standards.
Compromising of two saxophones, vocals, and a rhythm section, Torge's Sextet is an experimental group that plays his compositions that are inspired by different mediums, ranging from paintings and pottery to stories and poetry. Besides this the use of other elements in the compositions such as set design, animal sounds, unconventional improvisational landscapes and storytelling demonstrate Torge's unique compositional voice.
Torge Goderstad is an up and coming New York City bassist/composer who draws upon inspiration not only from a diverse range of musics but also other artistic mediums to fuel his improvisations and compositions. Originally from Denver, Colorado, Torge moved to New York to pursue a Degree in Jazz Performance from The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, which he received in 2018. Since arriving in New York, Torge has played notable venues such as Lincoln Center's Performing Arts Library, Bern International Jazz Festival and the Lower East Side Nuyorican Poets cafe.
